One of the things that’s on the mind(s) of many of my visitors is the new website that I’m supposed to be getting in a week or so. The truth of the matter is that the website I want is already registered by a domain scalper. This person has had the domain for nearly four years now, and they’re not doing anything with it. However, Dennis and I found another name that fits me perfectly. =)
With the arrival of a new website comes some revalations. No, I haven’t done anything sinister. Yet.
What this means is I will probably put this blog on hiatus as well as close down several of my other accounts online. I won’t be renewing my TypePad account, and I doubt that I will use Vox or my journal as often. I have too many things going at once online. I don’t know anyone else who has as many sites or projects as I do.
I will be keeping my Flickr because that’s pro until next year sometime. I’m also going to be keeping my journal because that’s permanent. I’m letting go many of my domains. I don’t care what happens to them anymore. Dennis says I need to limit what I do online, and I agree with him.
Just incase the domain scalper doesn’t let go of the .com I want, I have a .org picked out, though the .org isn’t as unique as the .com I want. The .com is actually the only one of its kind that is registered at the moment, and with the exception of a .net that was registered a while back, it doesn’t look like anyone else has thought of registering that name. I’m not going to post what either of those names are until I secure them. The last time I did anything like that, someone registered the username I wanted. It’s too bad that I can’t trust people, but that’s just the way it is.
So why do this?
Well, .nu’s are very expensive to keep. They’re about $30 per year to renew, and while .orgs are about $15 per year, ultimately, I want that .com that I had picked out. .coms are very cheap to register and renew. I wish I could keep my .nu, but with just the one credit card, we have to cut down on expenses. I love my .nu and I wish I could keep it, but I don’t know if I will be able to. I will say that if I get the .com I want, I will never let it go.
With the new website coming along, I will probably put this blog on hiatus. No worries though, because I will be linking to my new blog/domain when I get it. I may toss people from my other site over here before I buy the .com or .org. I don’t know yet.
I need to go play the Sims 2 and relax a little. All of this talk about having too much online isn’t helping me any.
