A Moment In Time

I survived. Almost. :) By “survived” I don’t mean with my group of friends/journalers. I’ve had the best time here. Everyone that I’ve met is so much like their blogs it’s weird. James did his show from here, and featured several of his favourite bloggers. It was amazing. Yesterday we had our fireworks spectacular. James filmed that, but the videos aren’t online yet. It’s funny. Here is a group of bloggers who met through the internet and none of them remembered to bring a computer. I’m serious. Everyone packed digital cameras, Palm Pilots, iPods, cell phones, weed, cocaine, heroine, condoms (this one time at Journal Con…..), but no laptops. A community united by computers and that’s the one thing they all forgot! To add insult to injury, the WiFi here is free, all you need is an ethernet port or a WiFi card. There’s a video floating around of yours truly attempting to light a sparkler last night, and failed miserably, burning her right index finger. I think I had a wee too much to drink.
Sitting in the grass last night with James and John (I’m one of three women who dared show up to this geek-fest), sharing a bowl of cheese fries with James as he filmed the far and few inbetween fireworks (nothing new or spectacular about that video. It’s almost identical to last year’s fireworks video–9 gigs of video and three minutes of fireworks). We were getting a lightening storm, so it was even more strange. Thunder, lightening and fireworks. Eventually James had to run to the bathroom, and no sooner had he turned off his camera, then the good fireworks started. That’s always the way it is, huh?
Meeting John was my favourite part of this convention. He’s so much like his blog, the title of his blog is so perfect, “Windows To My Soul” it was scary. Every time I read it, I’m going to imagine it in his strange voice. I thought he was much younger than me, but it turns out he’s my dad’s age. No, I’m not in love with the guy. I’m just happy to make a new friend. :)
After the fireworks, there was a lame karaoke attempt. Dennis and I sang Paradise by the Dashboard Lights. I never really paid attention to that song before. It’s kind of funny and sad at the same time. I was a bad karaoke singer; I burst into giggles in the middle of the song. I’m sure James caught that on video. His video camera catches everything. It’s just a matter of time before he gets home and uploads everything and there goes my ‘good girl’ image right off the web. Back in our room, I found five ticks on my right leg. I called the others to tell them to check for ticks. I got into them during the fireworks. I think our place to sit was a bad place to sit directly on the ground; the grass had just been mowed. Sure enough, John and James had ticks too. I checked Dennis and he had a few. I didn’t think anything of it until this morning when I woke up and my right leg was numb. Around noon I was freezing to death. I was hungry but vomiting, if that makes any sense. I couldn’t put weight on my leg. It was as if it went to sleep and never recovered. I’m better now, but that was pretty scary.
We’re heading home tomorrow. Back to the daily grind. I’ve had a wonderful time here, numb leg and all.

I’m not up to spend about the convention you’re talking about, or who the people are you’re talking about…but I can’t imagine computer people packing to go anywhere without their computers. We never travel without one, and most folks wouldn’t call us computer people. I blog, hubby uses a computer for work. We both read the news and check out email daily when we travel. I’ve made a few folks in person after meeting them on line and someone always had a laptop. I don’t use one, I still prefer pc at home; but have been thinking perhaps I should get one.
Hope your leg is better. Do you think it’s because of the ticks? You really should have it checked even if you feel it’s better.
