The World of Yesterday

We took Chloe for her check up today. I took her to Doc Dan’s because I wanted specific DNA/genetic tests done on her to see if we’re going to be facing another May 20th in six years. Doc Dan was checking her visual reflexes by hiding a stuffed white kitty behind his back and asking her where it was. She reached out and swiped the red lollipop from his scrub pocket, unwrapped it, and had it in her mouth before the rest of us even had time to react. It was embarrassing and cute at the same time. He asked her if he said she could have that. “You have the kitty!” she retorted. Now that was cute. :D
After the appointment, we went to a card shop to pick up some birthday cards and stickers, and yes, I bought one for a friend that I don’t think is actually my friend anymore. It’s really heart breaking. But I still picked up a card for her. While I was browsing for another card for another friend, Dennis came up to me and handed me some kind of a weird card. He was giggling and snickering. I looked it over. It was a lesbian lovers’ birthday card. “What the hell…?” I asked him. “Hey, if you leave me for her, I get to watch the first time, right?” he laughed. “Very funny,” I replied and handed him the card back. I had no idea Hallmark made cards for lesbians and gays, and though they do, I had no idea the cards would be sold in the Bible Belt where homosexuals are teh-dEVIL.
Driving home, my grandmother called me. She never calls me unless she wants something, and this time was no exception. She said she wanted an audio CD of Michael Jackson songs. “Um, grandmary, are you sure?” I asked. “I’m sure. Here’s a list of the songs I want…” she said. I’ll Be There, Dancing Machine… “Oh, grandmary, you don’t want Michael Jackson songs…” “Yes I do…” “Those are Jackson Five songs!” “So? Michael sang them. What’s the difference?” “He was still black, innocent and had his original facial features,” I replied. I know, cheap shot, but there is a big difference in Jackson Five songs from the 70′s and Michael’s solo songs from the 80′s and 90′s. Making the audio CD, I found all four of the boxes of blank DVDs CompUSA gave us every time we bought a new computer from them. I don’t know if they’ll make movies though; they’re Apple brand DVDs, so I’m not sure if they’re for movies or making DVD software on (I always bought the developer computer package). If they work for movies, I’m going to start DVD-ing Jess’ old v-logs and get those in the mail.
I also have one of those google profiles now. So now what? You all friend me like on Facebook or Myspace? Seems like a waste to have all these social profiles, but with Google Friendconnect, the Blogger users who love this site can follow my blog now. :)

Loved the post. Chloe definitely made one of those “How Can U Not Love Me?” moves that so readily to beguiling little ones. Good thing they don’t understand about money or the world would be broker than it is; suckered…er, charmed, every time.
Hook Grandmary up; if it’s all the same, the Jackson 5 was the genesis. Don’t forget to add “Ben”. :)
