When Love Comes Knocking (At Your Door)

It’s no secret that I tried to suck up to the detective who looked at Pogo’s case. I mean I really sucked up to him. I baked him cookies, I made him a mixed CD, I even volunteered to sew the patch back on his shirt. I guess I went a little overboard. He showed up at my door today, with a small bouquet of flowers.
I was playing around with Dennis in the bedroom when I heard the knock at the door. I was dressed in my undies and a t-shirt, drinking carbonated grape juice right from the bottle, when I answered the door. Hey, I was decent! I was surprised to see the detective there. “What…What are you doing here?” I asked. He looked me over, smiled a little, and replied, “I was thinking if you’re not busy tonight we could go see a movie…” Just then Dennis came out of the bedroom and took the bottle of grape juice from me, took a drink, and handed the bottle to Chloe, who took a small drink. “Who’s he?” Dennis asked. “Um, this is the cop who investigated me back in May,” I replied. “What’s he doing here?” Dennis asked. Detective wasn’t smiling anymore. “Is that alcohol?” he asked, nodding at the bottle. “It’s grape juice. Why are you here?” Dennis asked. “I was…” the detective asked, “Just leaving,” I replied, and hurried him outside. I gently closed the door behind us.
“What are you really doing here?!” I hissed. “Asking you out, I thought you had an interest in me,” he replied. I sighed. “I’m married. That man in his underwear? That’s my husband,” I replied. The detective seemed confused, surprised and shocked. All at the same time. “I never knew you were married,” he replied. “I guess your investigation wasn’t as thorough as you thought,” I replied. “Guess not,” he agreed. We said goodbyes and he left. I went back in the house.
Dennis was sitting in the living room chair drinking from the grape juice bottle. “What did he want?” he asked. “Just to confirm that he’s not really that great of a detective,” I replied. “What were the flowers about?” he asked. “He wanted to know what kind of flowers they were. Exactly why he’s not the greatest detective in the world,” I replied.
You know…
If a cop is going to investigate someone, they should do a better job. Makes me wonder how many real killers are going free on the streets here because the cops can’t investigate them for the world.
