Under 40
I had another low blood sugar today. Under 40. I spent a good part of the last hour sobbing and shaking. Dennis didn’t know what was wrong with me, until I said I needed to eat–yesterday. He got the ice cream out of the freezer and dumped a bag of chocolate chips in it and gave me the entire mess. I ate a few bites and then pushed it away.
I don’t understand this medicine. I’ve googled it and almost all the medical sites on it claims that if you’re truly a diabetic, you won’t have low blood sugars. I do almost nothing all day, coasting through with a little as possible, and I have horribly low blood sugars. I want to call my doctor and tell him that this medicine is wrong for me, or he misdiagnosed me. Of course the latter can’t possibly be true. He could never, ever make a mistake!
Other than that, I’m having a good day. Hope you are too!

Have you been to a different doctor? It really seems like you should. I take metformin too (I think that’s what you said you take for diabetes). I only take one a day though. Do you make sure to take it with your meals and eat regularly? It says on the instruction leaflet thingy they give you that it can cause low blood sugars. I haven’t done any research on it though. I would for sure try to get into another doctor. Especially since you are so strongly doubting what they doctor says. Keep us updated!!
What type of diabetic meds are you on. I’m on Novalog (10 – 15 units a meal), Lantus (40 units at bed time) and something called Simulin (not sure of spelling). I rarely have low sugars even tho I try to watch what I eat. Being sick can throw your sugars way off.
You will get low bloodsugars when you’re almost fasting. Ofcourse you will.
To get a proper balance you have to try to live like you usually do. Which means moving around and if possible have some exercise each day. On the bicycle or doing hard housekeeping work also counts.
Gardening is a good one too.
Apart from that, take your meds each day at the same time.
And go to a dietician so she can help you to find out which diet helps best. It’s not a difficult diet. Mainly just healthy eating.
But we’re all different and have different needs.
I can’t each much in the mornings, because my gluco’s rise skyhigh, and cheese keeps my gluco’s high.
Desserts make my gluco’s rise skyhigh too and then fall so low that I nearly get a hypo.
So I eat what works for me best, at regular times and 2 sandwiches before I go to sleep. (Otherwise I wake up during the night and can’t sleep anymore).
Important in diabetes is to keep your glucos as much as possible the same during the day.
Icecream won’t help.
You need to know about slowreleasing carbohydrates and such. A dietician can tell you that.
When you eat properly you won’t feel hungry and won’t get low glucos.
Good luck!
Oh and when I’m the somaniest, please donate the ec’s to http://actionforautism.blogspot.com
